It is a story of families that tells the story of wine: oenology and genealogy. The roots of this company also found their original plantation in the ancestors of those who are now determining its renaissance. It was the thirties of the twentieth century when two young spouses, Vito Giacalone and Giuseppa (Pinuzza) Genna, set up home together in the Marsala district of Tabaccaro. Like all the other good country people of the time, they built next to it the typical malasèno with a sloping roof supported by wooden beams and a terracotta tile covering that we call ciaramire. This was the first family winery. They owned about 7 hectares of land in the ancient districts of Bordino, Marcanza, Portelli, Favorotta, Bufalata, Spagnola. And they cultivated citrus and olive trees, but above all vineyards: from whose white berry grapes of the cultivar Grillo, Inzolia and Catarratto the base wine for the production of Marsala was obtained. In Sicily in those years, this territory already boasted a great wine tradition. And the harvest was the most important and joyful period of the year: a long season of celebration - from late August until the beginning of October - lived with joy and almost more sacredness than liturgical holidays. They set off at dawn, owners and crews of laborers, with carts pulled by mules. And they spent whole weeks at the manor, in the bagli or in the huts scattered among the vineyards of the inland Marsala. Vito died prematurely in 1942, Pinuzza was left alone with her little daughter Maria. But instead of surrendering to the inedibility of widowhood, she showed all her strong character and with unexpected enterprise took charge of the company, even expanding its surface, buying new lands, hiring labor and also carrying on the transformation and vinification of the grapes: and this for over a decade. Pietro and Maria passed on to their children Giuseppina, Linda and Francesco the passion for the land. And in the nineties, the youngest of the three, Ciccio, agro-enologist, took over the reins of the company, dedicating himself in particular to converting the bush cultivations into new espalier plants and to revitalizing some grape varieties of historical-territorial interest. In the two farming entities - one in the coastal strip of Marsala and the other in the inland Trapani today Misiliscemi - the grafts follow the pedoclimatic vocation: the Grillo has been restored with its contemporary clones in the mineralized plains in front of the Mozia lagoon, the hills of the hinterland see the classic Grillo cohabiting with valuable red berry vines such as Syrah and very recently with an authentic "relic" called Vitrarolo. The fourth generation now sees the company entrusted to the hands and the spirit of the young winemaker Pietro: who decides, together with his father Ciccio, to make the organic method exclusive for all the crops in the 18 hectares of the family (of which about 15 are vineyards, 2 of an ancient olive grove and a small historical citrus grove). And it is with real emotion that Pietro Pulizzi - namesake grandson of the pater familias and heir of the same oenological DNA, the name as a presage - after almost a century from the foundation and making treasure of the genealogical teachings, after some amateur experiments, in 2022
