Description
Abbazia San Giorgio
Pantelleria is a truly special island. The black volcanic cone lost in the sea between Sicily and Africa is an expression of an intense, identity-defining character, even in the simplest agricultural products. There are celebrants who, without knowing it, are the embodiment of the soul of the island. One of these is Battista Belvisi, a cultivator, viticulturist, cellarman, and oenologist. Together with Beppe Fontana, an itinerant gourmet and glamour chef, in 2015 they created what was then a very small reality called Abbazia San Giorgio, whose vineyards, three and a half hectares located in Khamma, are in the southeastern part of the island. In 2015 Battista and Beppe produced 1,000 bottles of Passito di Pantelleria, 2,000 bottles of a dry Zibibbo and 1,000 red bottles, a good part of which were already raided on the island. Since then, Abbazia San Giorgio has grown both in terms of national and international recognition of the quality of its wines, now exported to many foreign countries, and in terms of production. Abbazia San Giorgio is committed to natural wines: organic management with the use of biodynamic techniques.
