Description
Nicolò Grippaldi
I am Nicolò Grippaldi, a winemaker in Gagliano Castelferrato. I studied philosophy and literature in Florence, but I am originally from a small village in the hinterland of the province of Enna, in Sicily, called Gagliano Castelferrato, here we are 651 meters above sea level. When I lived in Florence I entered the world of wine thanks to my dear friends, the owners of the Castello dei Rampolla in Panzano in Chianti. I am followed by an important researcher who developed modern viticulture in the vineyard and in the cellar. In all the towns of the province of Enna there are no more vineyards because after the phylloxera they were completely uprooted and never replanted because even in this area there is a subsistence agriculture with a still very backward mentality. On April 3, 2015, I planted 2.63 hectares of vineyards in the land where my great-grandfather had a small vineyard 100 years ago. I planted 1.33 hectares of Nerello Mascalese and 1.30 hectares of Nero d'Avola for a total of 11 thousand plants. I am a pioneer of my territory and thanks to this I will produce a wine that represents 100% of my terroir, without any use of chemical substances in the vineyard and in the cellar. I believe in this land and I feel that it has enormous potential to produce a unique grape and wine
