Description
Marilena Barbera
My name is Marilena Barbera and I am an independent winemaker. I live and make wine in Menfi, Sicily. As a child, I dreamed of a diplomatic career, but after graduating in Political Science in Florence and a couple of Masters - one three-year in History, Economics and International Law, the other in Tax and Fiscal Law - the call of my Sicily was stronger, so much so that it brought me back home without regrets after fifteen years of study and work. I embraced my family's farming activity with enthusiasm, fascinated by its centennial history and grateful for the legacy that my father and my grandfather before him passed on to me: at first I mainly dealt with sales and marketing, managing sales networks, contact with customers and importers; then, after my father's death, I also started to closely follow the cultivation of the vineyards and the production of wine, which quickly became my whole life. Today I make my wines in Menfi, and between racking and bottling I continue to travel the world. And I believe there is no better ambassador of wine to testify to the history, culture and vocation of my land.
