Description
Castello di Solicchiata
Since 1852 an incredible winery surrounded by terraces carved into the rock. A family that has been producing wine for hundreds of years. Today Baron Arnaldo Spitaleri, whose efforts to restore the estates to their former glory date back to 1997, leads Feudi Barone Spitaleri together with his brother Felice and is also the winemaker. The Spitaleri family therefore still holds the estates together with other properties in eastern Sicily where they grow renowned oranges. Today Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon represent the optimal combination between the climate of 800m above sea level and the generous 80 hectares of land that form the vineyard Castello di Solicchiata. The Pinot Noir grapes, on the other hand, give their best with the cooler climate and thinner soil that characterize the 35 hectares included at a height between 1000 and 1200m above sea level and forming the Feudo del Boschetto vineyard.
