Luca Zumbo comes from a family of farmers for generations. His commitment in this sector began in 2020, during the pandemic period, when he rented his father's vineyard and began to take care of the family business. The vineyard was already cultivated by his grandfather and great-grandfather as sharecroppers during the early years of the twentieth century. In 2023, he decided to increase the vineyard area, recovering 1.5 hectares located within the Alcantara River Park. The company's surface is not only intended for vine cultivation but also for the cultivation of ancient varieties of olive trees, hazelnuts, and fruit trees. The cultivation is organic and natural without any use of chemical herbicides and plant protection products. Therefore, in 2021 the idea of the Virgola project was born, fully respecting the peasant tradition, the safeguarding of the environment, biodiversity, and the recovery of the territory.
