Description
Giovanni Rosso
For years, Giovanni Rosso had been looking for a new terroir where he could challenge himself. The parallel project officially began in May 2016 with the purchase of the Etna estate in the Solicchiata district of Castiglione di Sicilia. The company is located a few kilometers before Passopisciaro at the foot of Montedolce, a small extinct crater that gives its name to the district. This is the north-east side of the volcano, an area particularly suited for the production of red wines. The new properties extend over fourteen hectares in a single plot; at the moment the area occupied by the vineyards is just over six and a half hectares, 1.2ha of white grape and 5.5ha of black grape, carricante the first, nerello mascalese the second, with small percentages of other native varieties (as local tradition dictates). The type of plantation has been renamed "candelabra", these are forty-year-old saplings developed two-dimensionally to create rows; the average altitude is 750m s.l.m.
