Our story begins three generations ago, when our grandfather bought a plot of land at the foot of Mount Etna. At the time, the land was considered prosperity, providing some of the basic needs of life: food, trade, and work. On the property, there was also a lava stone quarry, which with determination and grit, our grandfather manually carved to make the slabs (basole) used to create roads and paths throughout Sicily. The fertile part of the land was cultivated with hazelnut, chestnut, orchard, olive grove, and vineyard that provided food for the family and supplied the local markets. As children, we played on the land, joined our family in the harvesting activities, and the countryside was the place of many meals consumed together in joy. At the time all we knew was family, culture, and respect for tradition, for the land of Sicily and for the unpredictable volcano. What we didn't know was that these family values and our strong cultural heritage, together with the wealth that comes from the volcanic soil, would allow us to realize a dream... to produce unique wines in the world. Together, as a family, we have combined our heritage, passion, skills, and determination to create Vini Calì.
