The company "Soffio sulle Isole"; was founded on the Island of Vulcano, one of the seven islands that make up the Aeolian archipelago in Sicily, in 2009. The island has always been known since ancient times for its intense volcanic activity. Sparsely populated and with two opposite coves, one open to the west and one to the east, the island often provided refuge for the pirates of the Tyrrhenian Sea. A few decades before the last great eruption of 1888-90, when the crater ceased to be active, a few farmers lived on the Piano, a very fertile area of the island where some areas are still cultivated by local farmers and where I decided to start my company. The vineyard is located in a real plain at an altitude of 420 meters above sea level. The initial choice was to plant two grape varieties: the first native MALVASIA DELLE LIPARI and the other allochthonous for the Sicilian territory, a variety belonging to the Sangiovese family, exactly the CILIEGIOLO. The first production in 2012 led to the creation of two labels, the first, for the red wine, takes its name from the same company "Soffio sulle Isole" and reproduces a work in which EOLO, who blows on these wonderful UNESCO heritage islands, is clearly in the foreground; the second, "Donna allo Specchio", for the white wine, represents a moment of reflection and inner search of the human being who is immersed in the splendid Aeolian nature. The territory "o Chianu" is fertile, full of iron and minerals, its very fine black sand is a characteristic that has contributed to the birth of two wines that have received considerable appreciation among industry professionals. A few years after the purchase of another five hectares of land not far from the previous one, exactly in the Capo Grillo area. Here the soil is different, with a lot of presence of sulfur, tuff, lapilli and red earth.
