Le Casematte is a winery located in the vast Messina territory that was established in 2008 thanks to the vision and tenacity of Gianfranco Sabbatino, an accountant by profession and a winemaker by passion, who involves his friend Andrea Barzagli with his enthusiasm. Their big gamble was to bring back the Faro Doc, a historic local wine. We cultivate our vines using organic farming methods. Even in the cellar, we minimize the use of small oak barrels and new wood to produce elegant, territorial wines that best enhance the characteristics of the original vines. The hilly terrain where our vineyards are terraced extends up to about 500 meters in altitude, faces north, and overlooks the sea. The winds coming from the Ionian and Tyrrhenian Seas that intersect in the nearby Strait of Messina create a particular microclimate that greatly favors the temperature difference between day and night, even in the height of summer, so as not to thermally stress our vines during the delicate ripening phase.
